Education AI Futures brings together interdisciplinary expertise spanning machine learning, education, curriculum development, policy, and community engagement. Our team operates across institutions in Uganda, the UK, and the US, united by a shared commitment to epistemic justice and digital sovereignty.

Ggaliwango Marvin

Lead Engineer and Co-Investigator

Ggaliwango Marvin is a Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems Engineer whose core works focus on Autonomous Systems and Responsible Software Systems. He is an AI Researcher, Principal Investigator and Technical Lead of various studies focused on Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Quantum Computing, and Digital Education at Makerere University. He is a PhD Research Exchange fellow at Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering (University of Washington), holds an MSc in Digital Education (The University of Edinburgh), MSc in Computer Science and Engineering (BRAC University) and BSc (Hons) in Computer Science.

Rovincer Najjuma, Co-Investigator

Rovincer Najjuma

Co-Investigator

Rovincer Najjuma is a Lecturer in Digital Education and the Global South. She works in digital education in development contexts in collaboration with INGOs and universities. Her research focuses on educational mobility with and without digital technology, particularly for forcibly displaced populations; and for using appropriate technology for teacher training. Towards this end, she works on a series of refugee education projects throughout Uganda.

Nakayiza Hellen Raudha

Co-Investigator

Nakayiza Hellen Raudha is a Ph.D. candidate in Information Technology at Makerere University and a Lecturer in Computer and Information Science at Muni University, Uganda. Her research focuses on intelligent distributed systems engineering, auditing and quality assurance, particularly the design of technical frameworks for evaluating algorithmic fairness, accountability, transparency, and compliance in distributed AI-based decision-making systems.

Co-Investigator

Dr. Michael Gallagher is a Senior Lecturer and Co-Director of the Centre for Research in Digital Education at Edinburgh University. His PhD in Education from University College London focuses on educational technology, adaptive learning, and inclusive digital education. His critical analysis of adaptive learning systems and educational technologies in development contexts focuses on equity, mobility, and resilience for marginalized learners.

Owor Wilbroad, Cloud & MLOps Engineer

Owor Wilbroad

Cloud & MLOps Engineer

Owor Wilbroad is a Cloud and MLOps Engineer with a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology and Computing from Kyambogo University and a MSc in Computer Science of Makerere University. He has a strong academic and technical background in artificial intelligence, NLP, Data Science, ML, and Computer Vision. He integrated scalable cloud infrastructures with end-to-end machine learning pipelines for research and production in several AI-driven projects. Owor deploys and automates ML workflows using Docker, Kubernetes, TensorFlow Serving, and CI/CD frameworks for model lifecycle management, reproducibility and performance. Training and deploying transformer-based NLP models, building real-time computer vision pipelines, and developing low-resource cloud-native solutions are among his recent projects. He loves using machine learning for social good and bridging research and industry with scalable, cloud-based AI systems.

Tibakanya Joseph

Co-Investigator

Tibakanya Joseph, a Curriculum Specialist-ICT at the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) and a Google PhD Fellow in Computer Science, is an accomplished Digital Education practitioner, teacher and AI researcher specialising in conversational AI for Education. His fellowship provides access to Google's resources, mentorship, and global expertise, empowering him to pioneer transformative AI solutions for Education.

Kinataama Lauren is a Computer Science student at Makerere University, with a Diploma in Machine Learning. He combines strong problem-solving skills with hands-on experience in Python, Django, Flutter, MySQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C++, and Next.js, focusing on AI, embedded systems, and full-stack development. He has contributed to projects including an AI-based pest detection system and a travel management platform. Passionate about AI-driven automation and intelligent systems, he integrates creativity and technology to build innovative, scalable solutions for Fragile Contexts.

Nakawungu Teddy

Nakawungu Teddy is a Computer Science student at Makerere University, expected to graduate in January 2027, and holds a Diploma in Machine Learning. She has experience in Django, JavaScript, MySQL, HTML, and CSS, with interests in Artificial Intelligence, Web Development, and Mobile Applications. As a Research Assistant, she has contributed to projects in gambling analytics, cancer research, and heuristic education. She is experienced with computer networking, system development, IT security, and server management. She is passionate about building AI-driven solutions for healthcare, education, finance, and interactive digital experiences in constrained-resource settings.

Sukwe Benjamin

Sukwe Benjamin is a Computer Science student at Makerere University specializing in AI Engineering and Data Warehousing. His goal is to build robust local datasets and develop high-impact AI solutions tailored to regional challenges. He assisted in automating workflows at healthcare and education and designed the data logging systems and regional warehouse for an AI-powered local irrigation projects. A mission driven technologist, he is working on modernizing educational frameworks through AI. By architecting data driven infrastructures, he aims to bridge the opportunity gap and empower the next generation of African talent to solve local problems and drive innovation for Fragile Contexts.

Namata Haula Muanaisha

Namata Haula Muanaisha is a Computer Science student at Makerere University and holds a diploma in Machine Learning. She is a Frontend Developer specialising in Django, Flutter, and React. Her expertise spans Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Blockchain, with significant contributions to health-tech projects focused on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). She has successfully integrated SMART on FHIR and location-based services into web and mobile applications. Driven by innovation, she combines her technical proficiency in software development with a passion for building transformative, data-driven education and healthcare solutions for Fragile Contexts.

Ntonde Edgar Isingoma

Ntonde Edgar Isingoma

Ntonde Edgar Isingoma is a software engineer and Machine Learning researcher at Makerere University, Kampala. He is an undergraduate student of BSc. Computer Science and has collected online certificate qualifications in Data Analytics and database management. He has been directly involved in advancement of better health services, including the system design and building of Yoklinic, a telemedicine marketplace, and is now focusing on extending machine learning capabilities to resource-constrained edge devices in fragile contexts. He combines his academic pursuits with practical experience, continually striving to drive innovation in the healthcare industry.

Kampi Gloria Bulamu is a student at Makerere University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Holding a diploma in Machine Learning, she has developed expertise in predictive modeling, deep learning, and data analytics. Her academic journey focuses on software development, algorithms, and intelligent systems, aiming to apply computational techniques to solve real-world challenges in fragile contexts.

Alvin Aaron Arinda

Alvin Aaron Arinda

Alvin Aaron Arinda was born in Kampala. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. He has worked on various machine learning projects. His Machine Learning research includes Multi-modal Semi-supervised Knowledge Distillation for Hair Fall Prediction. Mr. Arinda is a Student Member of the IEEE. He has participated in various cybersecurity competitions and workshops. He aspires to contribute to the field of cybersecurity through research and practical implementations for fragile contexts.

Twomo Elvis Rodney is an undergraduate student at Makerere University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He is passionate about building resilient and scalable computer systems that leverage modern computing technologies to solve real-world problems in fragile contexts. His interests include software engineering, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, particularly in their capacity to create intelligent systems that enhance everyday life. He aspires to design robust and adaptive technologies that deliver long-term value, improve efficiency, and contribute to meaningful innovation in both industry and research.
